Cale Brechwald fired a one-hit shutout and struck out 10 batters, and in the process became the school’s all-time career strikeouts leader to help Alta-Aurelia beat Sioux Central 13-0 in a key Twin Lakes Conference game on Wednesday night in Alta.

Brechwald allowed a single, walked none and struck out 10 in five innings. His last strikeout of the game gave him 268 for his career, breaking the old record of 267 held by Alex Snyder.

Alta-Aurelia scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to take control as the Warriors outscored Ridge View 13-10 in a nonconference game on Tuesday at Holstein.

The Warriors plated one run in the first, four in the second, three in the third, one in the fifth and four in the sixth. Ridge View scored four runs in the third, three in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Alta-Aurelia (8-5) finished with nine hits in the game. Sam Sennert and Gabe Olsen led the way with three apiece. Maddux McCoy, Jaxson Page and Camden Reinert each had one hit.

Sennert drove in four runs while Page and McCoy each had two RBI. Olsen, Peyton Meyer and Cale Brechwald all had one RBI. McCoy scored three runs while Sennert, Reinert, Olsen and Gavin Sleezer all scored twice.

Sleezer was the winning pitcher. He allowed three hits and three runs, one of which was earned, walked four and struck out one in 31⁄3 innings.

Alta-Aurelia committed four errors in the game.

“We got out to a hot start going up 8-0 early in the game,” Alta-Aurelia coach Ryan Burkhart said. “Ridge View is a team that is going to battle and chip away at leads, and that’s what they did. I thought our kids embodied the ‘bend but don’t break’ mentality as they worked to win that game.

“Camden Reinert did a good job starting on the mound to keep them at bay, and Gavin Sleezer did well helping us nail down the win,” Burkhart added. “Each guy we put on the mound did their best to keep us in that game. We have struggled at times to throw strikes this year and we still found a way to win. Our offense really picked us up and gave us some breathing room.”
