St. Mary’s tops SC/Whiting for first win, 16-0

Posted

It was a bizarre game for Storm Lake St. Mary’s on Monday night.

The Panthers had only one hit that traveled no more than six feet and won the game    16-0.

How?

Fifteen walks and five hit batters.

St. Mary’s scored all 16 of its runs in the first inning as the Panthers picked up their first win of the season at Memorial Field.

Isabella Landgraf had the lone hit — a ball that glanced off her bat by accident and rolled fair. Landgraf, Jenna Merten, Kielee Larson and Harley Doyel all had two RBI. Chelsey Gibbins, Dani Young, Neely Bacon, Aubrey Crum and Ruby Phelps each had one RBI.

Bacon, Crum, Phelps, Landgraf, Young, Gibbins and Doyel all scored two runs.

Bacon was the winning pitcher. She allowed no hits, walked one and struck out six in three innings.
