Raveling’s homer helps SL get past 2A No. 7 West Monona

Maddy Raveling hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie and give Storm Lake the lead for good as the Tornadoes got past Class 2A No. 7 West Monona 3-2 on Tuesday at Tornado Field.

Mackenzie Harder led off the sixth by reaching on an infield bunt single. After an out, Raveling hit a ball over the center field fence to make it 3-1 Tornadoes.

West Monona (28-7) scored a run in the seventh when Neveah Healy hit a solo home run with one out. Avery DeHaan got a flyout and a popout to end the game.

Storm Lake scored a run in the first inning when DeHaan doubled and later scored on a single by Taylor Ripke.

West Monona tied it at 1-1 in the third. Savannah Lucas reached on a throwing error and later scored on a groundout.

Storm Lake had five hits in the game. DeHaan, Ripke, Harder, Raveling and Cole Richardson all had one apiece.

DeHaan was the winning pitcher. She allowed three hits and one earned run, walked one and struck out seven over seven innings.

Storm Lake (19-3) committed two errors in the game.
