Posted

Kierra Jungers pitched six shutout innings to help Newell-Fonda, ranked ninth in Class 1A, to a 7-1 win over Humboldt last Thursday at Humboldt.

Newell-Fonda scored three runs in the first inning, one in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Newell-Fonda (23-6) finished with nine hits in the game. Kinzee Hinders led the way with two. Seven other players had one hit apiece.

Jaicee Vanderhoff drove in two runs while Hinders, McKenna Sievers, Jungers and Anna Mercer all had one RBI. Hinders and Isabel Bartek each scored two runs.

Jungers allowed three hits and one earned run, walked none and struck out nine in seven innings to get the win.

“Defensively, we played one of our best games of the year making some great effort and heads-up plays,” Newell-Fonda coach Courtney Darrow said. “At this point of the year, you have to go out and give it your absolute all to get any out you can. As well as, on the bases play fast and hard and give what they take you. We started out fast and produced runners up and down the lineup. Humboldt is a good hitting team and keeping one player to their three hits is what is tough to do.”
