Marjorie Grace (Mullins) Holstein of Early went to her heavenly home on June 13, 2024.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for May 24, 2025, in Early.
Marjorie was born in Storm Lake Oct. 10, 1933, to Frank and Grace Mullins. She attended Hayes Consolidated High School and graduated with high honors in 1951. She married her high school love, Marvin L. Holstein, in 1954 at the Methodist Church in Storm Lake. They were later blessed with two children, M. Paul and Lee Andrea.
The family moved to a farm northwest of Early where they raised livestock, planted crops and gardened for over 40 years. Marjorie worked alongside Marvin with the farm business as well as working at the courthouse, followed by 30 years at the BV Abstract office. Upon retirement they settled down and bought a house in town.
She had a loving and caring personality. Her family was her everything; she supported her husband, children and grandchildren. She never missed any school events, even those that required her to travel many miles to attend. She loved music and singing hymns. It warms our heart to know she is singing in the heavenly choir with her son, M. Paul.
Marjorie was a talented seamstress, knitter and crocheter. She made her own wedding dress and was later privileged to make her daughter’s wedding dress, as well as dresses for each of her daughter’s bridesmaids.
She crocheted the last names of her family members to have on display in their homes. She leaves behind many knitted afghans and baby blankets for her loved ones to cherish. Marjorie was also an excellent cook and baker. There was always fried chicken for the grandchildren, cream puffs, caramel rolls, rye bread and as many people know — the “best pancakes ever.”
In 2023 she moved to Fort Pierre, S.D., to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law. Even though she was not enthused to relocate, she was always thankful and kind.
Marjorie touched many lives with her generosity and kindness and will be deeply missed.
Those left behind to cherish her memories are daughter Lee Andrea (Ron) Calkins of Ft. Pierre, S.D.; grandchildren: Martin (Marlin) of Carbondale, Colo.; Andrea (Dave) Mitsdarffer of Raymore, Mo.; Adam (Shelby) of Pueblo, Colo.; and Molly (Ben) Rose of Cedar Rapids; great-grandchildren: Felix, Oscar and Margo Rose of Cedar Rapids; Graham and Hazel Mitsdarffer of Raymore, Mo.; as well as many special nieces and nephews she held dear to her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband; her son; brothers Marvin and Russell; and sisters: (infant) Doris, Ruthie and Bernadine.
Marjorie’s family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and acts of kindness. Memorials may be sent in memory of her to your local hospice or Early United Methodist Church.
