Evelyn Nath tripled and scored on a throwing error in the top of the seventh inning to give Estherville the lead as the Class 3A No. 6-ranked Midgets edged Storm Lake 1-0 in a showdown for the Lakes Conference title on Wednesday at Tornado Field.
Pitchers Avery DeHaan of Storm Lake and Tatum Dunlavy of Estherville dominated the game. The Tornadoes had only two hits — singles by Olivia Speers and Kennadie Miller. The Midgets had three hits.
Mackenzie Harder reached base twice on misplayed bunts and advanced to third base both times, but Storm Lake (16-3) couldn’t get the timely hit to score her.
