Darrel W. Behrens, 92, of Albert City died Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Laurens Care Center.

There will be no services at this time. Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.

Darrel was born Dec. 7, 1931, to William and Emma (Peters) Behrens in Storm Lake. He was baptized and confirmed his faith at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Albert City. As a boy, Darrel would occasionally ride his pony to Bible school. He graduated from Albert City High School in 1950. He served in the United States Army as a radio instructor at Fort Monmouth, N.J., during the Korean conflict.

Darrel was united in marriage to Margit Carlson on May 26, 1956, at Evangelical Free Church in Albert City. To this union, three children were born: Kelly, Michael and Timothy.

Darrel was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Albert City, where he served as president. He also served on the Albert City Public Library Board, Albert City School Board and president of Pleasant View Nursing Home Board. Farming was his everything. In his free time, Darrel loved fishing at Leech Lake, Minn., while staying at Doc’s Lodge Resort. Darrel and Margit also had a cabin on Lake Okoboji, where the family would visit most summer weekends and enjoy long boat rides on his cabin cruiser.

Darrel started B&B Water Conditioning in Albert City in 1987, and was the owner until 2014 when it was taken over by his son, Tim. The B&B office was the local gathering place for morning coffee for Darrel and his friends. Darrel will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish Darrel’s memory include his beloved wife of 68 years, Margit of Albert City; sons: Kelly Behrens of Albert City; Mike (Jo Ann) Behrens of Marathon; Timothy (Analyn) Behrens of Laurens; sister Sandra (Wayne) Kimber of Bloomington, Ill.; grandchildren: Sarah (Jason) Salz, Emily (Brian) Wrightsman, Betsy Behrens, Zoe (Connor Keech) Behrens and Ethan Behrens; and great-grandchildren: Ezekiel, Piper and Ellia Wrightsman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Emma Behrens.
