Shirley Lackman

Shirley M. Lackman, 91, of Albert City passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2022, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5, at Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church in Pocahontas, with Fr. Craig Collison and Fr. Tim Johnson officiating. Graveside service is at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5, in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery near Storm Lake. Visitation is from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, at Powers Funeral Home - Sacred Heart Chapel in Laurens. Everyone is invited to wear Iowa Hawkeyes apparel in memory of Shirley. Vigil service is at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, at the funeral home in Laurens. Powers Funeral Home of Laurens is handling the arrangements.

Shirley Marjorie Foval was born to Eugene and Elvena (Johnsen) Foval on Aug. 15, 1931, on a farm in Poland Township north of Marathon. She received her education at Albert City, graduating in 1949. Shirley worked various jobs during her school years and was a telephone operator at the time of her marriage to John Lackman on July 24, 1950, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Laurens. They made their home in Albert City and are parents of three children: Kathryn Ann, Patricia Ellen and Robert Eugene. In 1978, Shirley and John moved to Sanborn. Shirley was a district manager from 1978 to 1993 with Avon products. Through her work with Avon, she made many wonderful friends and enjoyed the travel with her employment. In May 2001, John passed away. In 2016, Shirley moved to Countryside Living in Albert City, where the residents were like family to her.

Shirley was a member of Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church in Pocahontas, and a past member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Laurens and St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Sanborn. She was very active in the Sacred Heart Rosary Society and the St. Cecilia’s Ladies Group. Shirley was also a Girl Scout leader, a member of the PTA and Albert City Community Club. She enjoyed people, especially her family and special friends. Visiting, dancing and playing cards were her favorite pastimes. She was an avid Hawkeyes fan. Shirley loved going to grandkids’ and great-grandkids’ events. She was their best cheerleader. She always looked classy and her hair was perfect and lipstick was a must. She made greeting cards and sent them to her family and friends. She was the life of the party and loved life and lived it to the fullest. In memory of Grandma Shirley, send a card, call or text a family member or a friend. Give someone a hug and tell them you love them.

Survivors include her daughters: Kathy (Dennis) Brechler of Coralville; and Pat (Dan) Lullmann of Albert City; and son, Robert (Lisa) Lackman of Coralville; grandchildren: Michelle (Chad) Highly, Angie (Brad) Cook, Brian (Lindsay) Brechler, Melissa (Josh) Bellcock, Kirby (Kyle) Schuetz and Spencer Lackman; great-grandchildren: Mackayla, Garrett and Logan Highly, Chase and Dani Cook, Tyler and Audrey Brechler, Anna and Brooks Bellcock, and Milo Schuetz; sisters: Carol Johnson of Mt. Horeb, Wis.; Betty Schott and Joe Schott of Sheldon; brothers: Bill (Connie) Foval of Carroll; and Bruce Foval of Fort Dodge; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband John; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Bernard (Esther) Lackman, Eleanor (Herb) Stuckenschneider, Anna Marie (Norman) Johnson and Bill Johnson.
