Maxine Huseman

Maxine “Mickey” Huseman, 104, of Storm Lake, formerly of Alta, passed away peacefully Sept. 8, 2024 at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Memorial services will take place Saturday, Oct. 12, at 11 a.m. at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta. Visitation with the family and a light lunch will follow at the funeral home. Private burial will take place at Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mosaic Bethphage Village, 1044 23 Rd., Axtell, NE 68924.

Maxine Sarah (Hansen) Huseman was born Dec. 31, 1919, in rural Alta on the family farm. She was the eldest of three daughters of Thomas and Anna (Haase) Hansen and was raised on the family farm with her sisters, Marjorie and Mardelle. She was confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alta and graduated from Fairview Consolidated School in 1937 as class valedictorian.

Mickey married Robert “Bob” Huseman Jan. 25, 1942, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alta. To this union seven children were born. The family lived and farmed south of Alta for over 30 years, where Mickey was a stay-at-home mom raising the children. They were faithful members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta where she taught Sunday School and was active in other church activities. In 1975 they moved to Escondido, Calif., where they were members of House of Prayer Lutheran Church. They returned to Storm Lake in 2000, and continued to attend Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta until Bob’s passing in 2011. Since that time Mickey has been a resident at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bob; her sons: Bill, Carroll and David Huseman; her granddaughter De’Anna Moseley Smith; her great-grandson Nathan Austin; and her sister Marjorie Holmes.

Mickey is survived by her children: Tom Huseman of Galena, Mo.; Orin (Kathy) Huseman of Harrisonville, Mo.; Gail Weinstein of Houston, Texas; Jim (Roxanne) Huseman of Rembrandt; daughters-in-law: Irene Huseman of San Jacinto, Calif.; and Adriana Huseman of Hutto, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister Mardelle Holmes of Hastings, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
