Michael Baker

Michael Jay Baker, 59, of Sioux City, formerly of Storm Lake, died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2024 at UnityPoint St. Luke’s in Sioux City.

Memorial services will take place Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 10 a.m. at Summit Evangelical Free Church in Alta. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Michael Jay Baker was born March 24, 1965, to Howard and Elnora (Harker) Baker in Spirit Lake. He attended school in Ocheyedan, graduating in 1983. After graduation, Michael enlisted in the United States Navy, serving until he was discharged in 1986. He was the proud co-owner of Baker’s Court restaurant in Storm Lake for many years.                                                    

Michael was a sports enthusiast with his favorite team being the Minnesota Vikings. He enjoyed working at the YMCA in Indianola and made many friends there. In his free time, Michael loved cooking, baking and gardening. You could find his faithful canine companion, Tjango, by his side. Michael will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Alex (Alan) Gerdes of Sioux City; mother and stepfather, Elnora (Lloyd) Boettcher; brother Jim Baker of Atlantic; sister Julie Baker of Storm Lake; grandchild Avery Gerdes of Sioux City; nieces:, Kacee Baker and Jessie Baker; and nephew Cody Baker.

He was preceded in death by his father Howard Baker.
