LeRoy J. Stevens, 79, of Alta died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2024, at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center in Sioux City.
Visitation will take place Friday, Aug. 30, from 9-11 a.m. at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta. Private family services will take place at a later time. Burial will be in Storm Lake Cemetery.
LeRoy was united in marriage to Ellen Kueny in 1965. They were blessed with four children: Kim, Shane, LeRoy and Eva.
He was part of the Air Force crash and rescue team during the Vietnam War, stationed in Charleston, S.C.
LeRoy was a man of steadfast determination, known for his stubborn yet loving nature and his tireless work ethic. He cherished his wife deeply and found immense joy in their life together.
LeRoy’s gift of gab and friendly nature meant that no one was ever a stranger to him. His lifelong career as a salesman was a testament to his ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
Throughout his life, LeRoy found joy in many passions. He had a profound love for cars and woodworking, often spending hours perfecting his craft. Later in life, he discovered a special bond with dogs, who became his favorite companions. LeRoy also enjoyed traveling, especially to places near water, and found peace in camping trips with his loved ones.
Above all, LeRoy treasured the time spent with his grandchildren. They were a source of immense pride and happiness for him.
LeRoy’s presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
LeRoy is survived by his wife Ellen Stevens of Alta; daughter Kim Mechura (Kevin Griggs) of Stratford; son LeRoy Stevens II of Morton, Ill.; daughter Eva (Brandon) LaFever of Alta; grandchildren: Paige Mechura (Troy Borsh) of Stratford; Ty Mechura (Shelby VanCannon) of Boone; Haiden Stevens of Morton, Ill.; Collin LaFever of Alta; great-grandchild Theo Borsh of Stratford; brothers: Charles (Lorraine) Stevens of St. George, Utah; Clyde (Sue) Stevens of Sioux City; Keith Stevens of Sioux Falls, S.D.; sister Rita (Jerry) Reistroffer of Sioux City; brothers-in-law, John Kueny of Sioux City and George Kueny of Sioux City; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his son Shane Stevens; his parents, Roy and Dorothy Stevens; parents-in-law, Lester and Burnette Kueny; and sister-in-law Janet Kueny.
