A Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper
Jane Kathryn Evans of Greensboro, N.C., went to dance in heaven on June 19, 2024, after a long-fought battle with multiple myeloma.
She was born July 24, 1947, in Waverly, to Lester and Norma Juhl and lived her early years on a farm in rural Iowa. The family eventually settled in Storm Lake, where she graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1965. She attended the University of Northern Iowa.
Rooted in her midwestern values and work ethic, Jane was as hard-working and giving as they come. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and often read to residents at the local nursing home. In addition to teaching GED classes, Jane and her friend started a wallpaper hanging business called the Paper Dollys. She would never have imagined her wallpapering skills would lead her to finding her passion in event planning after being hired to hang wallpaper for the new Siebens Forum at BVU.
Spending the remainder of her professional career in higher education, Jane served as director of special events at Buena Vista University, Iowa State University, University of South Carolina and finally, The College of Charleston. Jane received several national and regional awards for her creativity and event planning.
Jane was a joyful, radiant soul who knew no stranger, making friends everywhere she went. Each person she encountered was impacted by her light and she left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege to know her. She always saw the positive in any situation, keeping a strong faith in God. We have no doubt she is in heaven asking every angel she passes to smile so she can take their picture!
Jane is survived by her mother Norma Juhl of Storm Lake; husband Gregory J. Evans of Greensboro, N.C.; sisters: Patsy (Tom) Jensen of Sacramento, Calif.; and Cindy (Dan) Johnston of Marble Falls, Texas; daughters: Amy (Keary) Didier of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and Emily (David) Zlotkowski of Summerfield, N.C.; and stepsons: Timothy (Amy) Evans of Chicago, Ill.; and John (Elitsa) Evans of Johns Creek, Ga.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lester Juhl.
Jane was affectionately known as Mie Mie to her nine grandchildren, who were the love her life: Riley, Regan and Caden Didier; Laurel and Lydia Zlotkowski; Danielle and Ben Evans; and Alex and Chris Evans.
A celebration of life will be held on July 13, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 3600 Lawndale Drive, Greensboro, N.C. The family will receive guests at a reception following the service. Condolences may be offered at hanesineberryfh.northelm.com.
