Harold North

Harold North, 87, of Storm Lake died Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at Accura Healthcare in Aurelia.

Memorial services will take place Monday, July 1, at 10:30 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 30, from 5-7 p.m. at United Methodist Church. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Harold Jellett North was born July 9, 1936, to Samuel Thurman and Evelyn Loraine (Sins) North in Alta. Growing up, Harold enjoyed roller skating with his family in a group called The Flying Aces. They traveled in Iowa and neighboring states wowing the crowd with fancy skating moves and stunts. He attended Hayes School, where he participated in many activities including baseball and basketball before graduating in 1955. 

On Nov. 28, 1954, Harold was united in marriage to Bettie Shannon at United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. They were blessed with four children: Michael “Mick,” Cheryl “Cheri,” Tamela “Tami” and Steven.

Harold worked at Cobblestone as a cook for nine years. Then he began his long career working at Hygrade and IBP on the line, where they discovered his knife sharpening skills. Then he began working as a knife specialist until he retired.

Harold was an avid golfer. He and Bettie enjoyed time together on the golf course. They had a home in Arizona so they could play golf all year round. Throughout the years, Harold loved bowling and playing fast-pitch softball. More than anything, Harold treasured time with his family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Harold is survived by his children: Mick (Teresa) North of San Angelo, Texas; Cheri (Dennis) Christiansen of Shenandoah; Tami (Kris) Parker of Persia; brother Robert North of Newell; grandchildren: Justin North, Brady North, Brooke (Brad) Reese, Heather (Adam) Soyer, Ashley (Matt) Ramler, Dustin (Haley) Christiansen, Jason Parker, Holly Parker and Kristin (B.J.) Pauley; great-grandchildren: Kaylyn North, Brynn Reese and Bennett Reese; Alex Soyer; Zach Soyer; Cal Kocinski; Ava, Kyla, Nora and Nolan Ramler; Reagan Baker; Hayden, Landon and Chandler Christiansen; Taylor and Kaitlyn Parker; Jadon, Mellie and Fitzgerald Pauley; great-great-grandchild Parker Menke; extended family and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Evelyn North; his beloved wife, Bettie North; and his son Steven North.
