Lu Vern Snyder

Lu Vern E. Snyder, 93, of Schaller died July 20, 2024, at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Funeral Mass will take place Thursday, July 25, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Schaller. Visitation will take place Wednesday, July 24, from 4-7 p.m. at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller.

Lu Vern Edward Snyder was born Dec. 16, 1930, to Edward and Mary (Vonnahme) Snyder in Carroll. He attended Sac County Country School. LuVern received his G.E.D. while serving in the United States Army. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Schaller. 

On June 2, 1962, Lu Vern was united in marriage to Alice Ziegmann at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Auburn. To this union, six children were born: Kimberly Ann, Michael Lee, Gary LuVern, Nancy Ann, Randy Lee and Douglas Lee.

Lu Vern had a love for putting puzzles together. He especially loved John Deere and farm scene puzzles. 

Lu Vern had an incredible love and talent for woodworking. He spent many hours in his shop creating beautiful wood items, such as keychains, picture frames, a replica of his dad’s farm horses with a wagon, animal puzzles and a beautiful Noah’s Ark. 

Lu Vern’s smile and personality were quite unique. He was very quick witted with a side of sarcasm. He so enjoyed and loved his grandkids. He would always have ice cream and cookies for them. 

Lu Vern was a farmer all his life. He had a deep love for the land. He planted corn, soybeans, alfalfa and milo throughout the years. He also spent many, many hours tending to cattle, sheep, chickens and pigs. He truly loved being a farmer and farmed mostly with John Deere equipment. He would jokingly call it, “John Deere Junk!”

Lu Vern is survived by his children: Kimberly Lamb of Polk City; Michael (Brenda) Snyder of Schaller; Gary (Nancy) Snyder of Alta; Nancy Miller of Schaller; Randy (Jen) Snyder of Lawton; Douglas Snyder of Spirit Lake; brothers: Wilmer “Red” (Judy) Snyder of Auburn; Algene “Snort” (Barb) Snyder of Carroll; sister Elvira Kitt of Templeton; grandchildren: Sara (Cody) Volkmann of Polk City; Justin Lamb of Ames; Kyle Snyder (friend Jasmine) of Cherokee; Kelsi (Brett) Stange of Aurelia; Jenna (Brandyn) Niemeyer of Ida Grove; Alex Snyder of Waukee; Katie (Kyle) Miller of Holstein; Daren Miller of Galva; Jodi (Nick) Nielsen of Sioux City; great-grandchildren: Jaxson Volkmann; Hazel Snyder; Remi Miller; Jax Miller; extended family and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his wife Alice Snyder; and brothers: Orville (Myrna) Snyder, Lenny (Helen) Snyder and Eugene Snyder.
