Anita Hazen

Anita J. Hazen, 82, of Le Mars passed away Monday, Sept. 2, 2024, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.

Private family funeral services will be held. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee. Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com. Boothby Funeral Home of Cherokee is assisting the family with arrangements.

Anita was born Sept. 15, 1941, to George and Mable (Mesner) Gottsche Sr. at Paullina. She graduated from Cleghorn High School in 1959. She was united in marriage to Harold M. Hazen on Nov. 29, 1959, at Cleghorn.

Anita worked for Aalfs Manufacturing in Le Mars and then worked at the Le Mars Hospital until retiring to take care of her husband. 

She was a member of Le Mars Church of Christ.

In her free time, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, playing cards and spending time with family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harold in 2015; granddaughter Kristen Hazen; siblings: George (Doris) Gottsche, Jr., Evanell (Lorne) Thoms, Arlene (Lorne) Schlenger, Delores (Donald) Smith and Shirley (LeRoy) Pedersen.

Anita will lovingly be remembered by her two children: Neal (Kathy) Hazen of Newell; and Kimberly (Paul) Staab of Remsen; six grandchildren: Nikki (Doug) Ockerman, Ryan (Courtney) Hazen, Aaron (Tiffany) Hazen, Kacy (Gerardo) Ramirez, Michael Staab and Mandy Staab; 15 great-grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews.
