So what if the City of Storm Lake took the $27,000 they spend on an outside retail consultant and instead, use it to promote and help small, home-owned, downtown businesses?
They could offer several grants which could assist with signage, start-up expenses, building improvements or whatever.
Would some needed cash have helped keep the Print Shop, the Five Girls store or any of our Latino businesses alive? And what happened to SCORE (the volunteer group who counsels small business)? Perhaps we could put heads together from the city, Storm Lake United and SCORE to brainstorm a better way to use that $27,000.
Just a thought.
