We are saddened to report the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and beloved friend Duane Wheeler. He departed this life on August 16th 2024 in Murrieta, CA. Duane turned 90 on February 14th, 2024. He was preceded in death by his father, Frederic Wheeler, his mother, Grace (Brown) Wheeler and his beloved sister, Wilma (Wheeler) Gray.
He leaves his loving wife of 36 years, Esthela Wheeler, his daughters Valerie Wheeler (Brendan Cournane) and Tamara Volner (Steven) and his sons Kyle Wheeler (Barbara) and Sean Wheeler (Susan) along with 11 loving grandchildren, Andrea, Danielle, Robert, Jamey, Craig, Randi, Ryan, Todd, Noah, Mike and Justin, and 10 great grandchildren.
Duane was born in Peterson, IA on February 14th 1934. He graduated from Cherokee, IA High School in 1952 and the University of Nebraska – with a major in accounting in 1956. Duane also passed the Certified Public Accounting exam and practiced as a CPA in Chicago, IL; in Denver, CO and California as an employee of Earnst and Earnst. Ultimately, he started his own practice (Wheeler Accountancy Corporation) first in Denison, IA and then finally in Escondido, CA until he retired. Duane was also a HAM Radio enthusiast and a member of Sons of the American Revolution.
He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. Family and friends held a private service to honor Duane’s life in Murrieta, California on August 24th, 2024. His ashes will be laid to rest in Peterson IA at a later time.
