Lucille Wilkens

Lucille Wilkens, 92, of Albert City died June 15, 2024, at Accura Healthcare in Aurelia.

Funeral services will take place Thursday, June 20, at 1:30 p.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Albert City. Burial will be in St. John's Church of Christ Cemetery in rural Storm Lake. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 19, from 5-7 p.m. at Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City.

Lucille Ann Sievers, the daughter of William and Dorothea (Gerke) Sievers, was born Oct. 3, 1931, at home in rural Storm Lake. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. Lucille was confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Newell, and received her schooling at Varina Public School, graduating in 1949. 

Lucille was united in marriage to Walter Wilkens on May 28, 1950, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Newell. This union was blessed with three children: Paul, Sharon and Carol. 

Lucille and Walt spent their married life on the farm until retiring to live in Albert City in 1991. They were members of St. John’s United Church of Christ in rural Newell for many years. While attending St. John’s, Lucille was a member of Women’s Fellowship, taught Sunday School and was an organist. She started playing the organ at St. Peter’s Lutheran Dec. 3, 1945, at the age of 14, and was an organist until August 2010 when heart problems began. She was a member of Pleasant View Home Auxiliary and served on the election board for many years. Her favorite pastimes were reading, crossword puzzles, gardening while on the farm and saving articles from the paper for her many scrapbooks. 

Walt and Lucille became members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in 2011 after the closing of St. John’s United Church of Christ. 

Walt and Lucille were blessed to share 65 years together. They loved being with their family when it was possible. Lucille’s life will always be loved and cherished by her family which includes her daughters: Sharon (Mike) Leimer of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; Carol (Dan) Blevins of Raytown, Mo.; grandchildren: David Leimer of Lenexa, Kan.; Emily (Kyle) Shipp of Lakeside, Calif.; Chris (Kim) Blevins of Kansas City, Mo.; Stephen (Madison) Leimer of Lenexa, Kan.; Derek (Kia) Blevins of Creve Coeur, Mo.; Katie (Jeron) Tucker of Olathe, Kan.; great-grandchildren: Owen Blevins, Paul Shipp, Ty Tucker, Eli Blevins, Cali Tucker and Beverly Blevins; sister Sally (Gilbert) Wilkens of Storm Lake; brother-in-law Ken Johnsen of Columbus, Ohio; Pam Bishop (fiancé Paul Wilkens) of Florence, Ala.; and other extended family and friends. 

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband Walter in April 2016; her son Paul in November 2017; her parents; sister and brother-in-law: Phyllis and Orlen Rohlfsen; and sister-in-law Wilma Johnsen.
