Stanley Carlton Quick, Jr., 89, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away at Wesley on Grand in Des Moines after a life well-lived on Tuesday Dec. 12, 2023.
Stan grew up in Stratford, where he met his wife Stephanie in the first grade. He attended Simpson College and was a proud ATO; he completed his dental degree at the University of Iowa and was a lifelong Hawkeye fan. After two years with the U.S. Navy in southern California, Dr. Quick established his dental practice in Storm Lake. Stan was proud of this community and the home he made there.
He was a wonderful spirit, kind and gentle, who continuously showed genuine interest in others, their lives and their families. He seemed to always find connections between people, places and experiences. His optimism throughout recent challenges inspires many, and his laugh could make anyone smile.
Stan impacted so many peoples’ lives including the many who experienced his caring and his gentle touch in the dental chair. The Quicks shared their home with three AFS exchange students who grew through that experience and still feel part of the family. The lessons learned from Stan’s example and wisdom continue through us all — family and his many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley Sr. and Helen; and brother, Larry.
He is survived by his brother Harlan; wife Stephanie; children, Karin (Jeff) and Thomas (Judy); grandchildren, Madeline (Grant) and Niles (Morgan); and great-granddaughter, Annie.
Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 20 at Wesley on Grand (Auditorium), 3520 Grand Ave., Des Moines, with visitation at 10 a.m. Lunch and story-sharing to follow the service.
