Knights of Columbus Drive for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities

Posted

On Nov. 8, at the Columbus Club Hall, funds were distributed to four different charities in Storm Lake as a part of the 2021 Drive for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities conducted by the Storm Lake Knights of Columbus. Imagine the Possibilities, Hope Haven, Storm Lake Special Education and Storm Lake Special Olympics each received distribution checks of $1,000. An additional $2,000 was given to Imagine the Possibilities, as they had not received a distribution in 2020. Additional funds of $667 were sent to the Iowa Knights of Columbus, which has routinely distributed additional funds to area agencies such as Hope Haven.

Funds were raised through an omelet breakfast, a silent auction, distribution of tootsie rolls and a mailing campaign. The total net revenue raised was $6,667.

The honorary chairperson of the drive was Anita Schlender, director of Imagine the Possibilities. Imagine the Possibilities has taken over services previously provided by Genesis Development, allowing independent living and providing opportunities for employment for those having special needs.

Money donations ($100 to $199) include: Benchmark Woodworks, Inc., Steve and Therese Becker, Central Bank, Family 1st Dental, Steve and Diane Hamilton, Paul and Martha Murray, Mike and Lori Porsch, Don and Betty Schmitt, Smith Concrete, Timothy Smith and Paul and Patty Tedesco.

Jim Smith, Sports Rehab, Stanton Electric, Brad and Maureen Strader, and Will and Kate Swanson.

A major donation of food supplies was from Rembrandt Enterprises. Other donated food items and supplies were received from Fareway, Hy-Vee and Liberty Food Service.

Recognition is given to in-kind donations for the silent auction: A&A Auto, Alta Golf and Country Club, Arnolds Motor Supply, Terry Bauer, Beal’s Towing, Bomgaars, Brown Shoe Fit, China House, The Daily Apple, Dairy Queen, Exhaust Pros, Expertise, Frank’s Auto Repair, Grand Central, Lisa Goodman, Johnston Auto, Lake Creek Country Club, Lakeshore Café, Loew’s Carpet One, Paxtons, Pizza Hut, R&M Auto, Rust’s Western Shed, Storm Lake Pilot Tribune, Storm Lake Times and The Sugar Bowl.

In addition to publicity provided by the newspapers, KAYL and KKIA also contributed free radio advertising.
