Douglas Hoeppner

Douglas Marvin Hoeppner, 86, of Storm Lake, died on Feb. 25, 2022, in Storm Lake. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 2, at 10:30 a.m. at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 1, from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home in Storm Lake. Douglas Marvin Hoeppner was born on Dec. 30, 1935, to Walter and Lillie (Oakes) Hoeppner. On Oct. 30, 1981, Douglas was united in marriage to Kay Witt of Storm Lake. Douglas grew up and attended school in Cherokee before becoming a bricklayer. He also worked for many years as the caretaker of the Storm Lake Cemetery. Douglas was an avid sports fan, always rooting for the Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota Vikings. He loved being outside, watching birds and squirrels and gardening. Douglas also enjoyed woodworking, but his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Kay of Storm Lake; his children: Brett Hoeppner of Storm Lake; Brian Hoeppner of Early; Kari Lichtenberg of Iowa City; Kaylee (Jeff) Hildreth of Bayfield, Wis.; Kreg (Tami) Lichtenberg of Marshalltown; Kristopher (Amanda) Hoeppner of Waukee; and Lindsay Kruse of Storm Lake; grandchildren: Travis Hoeppner of Storm Lake; Brooke Hoeppner of Alta; Ava and Emma Hoeppner of Waukee; Ivy Kruse of Storm Lake; Alexa (Justin) Romans of Solon; Brianne (Tyler) Linehan of Kaukauna, Wis.; Lucas (Amy) Pietan of Cedar Rapids; Jacob (Merrigan) Hildreth of Denver, Colo.; Vincent and Gabriel Folkedahl of Iowa City; and Cooper Lichtenberg of Marshalltown; six great-grandchildren: Roy, Phineas, Claire and Theodore Romans, Dorothy Pietan and Madilyn Linehan; brother Robert (Ardith) Hoeppner of Des Moines; sister-in-law Karen (Ray) Guntren of Sioux City; along with many nieces and nephews. Douglas is preceded in death by his parents; daughter Brenda Hoeppner; brothers: Walter Jr., Elmer, Richard and Gary Hoeppner; and sisters: Marcella Bernice, Eleanor, Delola and Janice.
