Wayne Sump, 83, of Storm Lake died Feb. 27, 2025, at Accura Healthcare of Aurelia.
Funeral services will take place Tuesday, March 4, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held starting at 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Wayne Frank Sump was born on June 15, 1941, to Walter and Verna Sump. He was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Storm Lake throughout his life.
Wayne was united in marriage to Lorraine (Lucht) Sump. They were blessed with two children, Renee and Terry.
Wayne was a member of the United States Army Reserves. In his spare time, he enjoyed carpentry. Farming was a passion of Wayne’s and he spent his entire life farming and tending to the ground. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Wayne stayed active taking walks by the lake and exercising at the fitness center. He enjoyed getting together with friends and playing cards. More than anything, Wayne loved spending time with his family during holidays and get-togethers. He looked forward to attending his grandchildren’s ball games and going on family vacations. Wayne will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Wayne is survived by his wife Lorraine Sump of Storm Lake; children: Renee (Scott) Grimsman of Carroll; Terry (Shelly) Sump of Pocahontas; brother Bob Sump of Plymouth, Minn.; sisters: LaDonna Jacobson of Minnetonka, Minn.; Lorraine (Dean) Wohlhuter of Oak Park, Minn.; sister-in-law Joyce Nehring of Storm Lake; grandchildren: Adam (Cassie) Grimsman of Kansas City, Mo.; Jeremy Grimsman of Prairie Village, Kan.; Jessica, Megan, Sarah and Tyler Sump of Pocahontas; nephews: Mike Jacobson, Mark (Mary) Wohlhuter and John Lucht; nieces: Lori (Theron) Drenckhalm, Jean Jaros, Julie (Andy) Sutherland, Kelly (Nic) Sorensen andCandace Sump; great-nieces: Greta, Monica, Shelby, Addison and Abby; great-nephews, Henry and Jamison; extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Verna Sump; parents-in-law, Eddie and Myrtle Lucht; granddaughter Genna Grimsman; and brother-in-law Bob Jacobson.
