Rosemary Hansen

Rosemary Colleen Hansen passed away on May 5, 2025, at the age of 88.

She was born on Aug. 14, 1936, to Peter Syndergaard and Beatrice Brees Syndergaard in Clay County.

Rosemary attended school in Peterson where she participated in 4-H, played the clarinet in the band, played basketball and was a cheerleader.

She married Kenneth Hansen and was blessed with four beautiful daughters. Rosemary was a remarkable mother and grandmother, a dedicated housewife, hardworking farmhand, skilled gardener, fabulous cook and an exceptional seamstress. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities, sewing, reading, cooking, spending time on the beach or by the pool, fishing and talking on the phone with her family. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Harlingen, Texas. Previously, Rosemary had been a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake.

Left to treasure Rosemary’s memory are her loving husband Kenneth Hansen; her daughters: Cynthia Howell (Dennis), Joni Click (Bruce), Lori Williams (Terry) and Sally Ites; her grandchildren: Dana Logan (Blake), Amber Edwards (Chris), Heidi Berthelsen (Kevin), Beth Geisinger (Jon), Ryan Williams (Carissa), Holly Richards (Deavon), Josh Schwartz, Siera Hilliard (David), Doug Bonnesen (Courtney), Kurtis Bonnesen (Ashlnn) and Tiffany Henkelvig (Howard); and 23 great-grandchildren.

Rosemary was also blessed with three litters of orphaned kittens born on her patio. She adopted two of the 16 kittens, Callie and Oliver, and found loving homes for the rest.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Beatrice; two brothers, Robert and Ken; three great grandchildren: Hult Bonnesen, Lakelyn Richards and Kayden Schwartz.

A service to celebrate Rosemary’s life is scheduled for Saturday, May 10, at 11 a.m. at Wesley Methodist Church, 1406 E. Austin Ave., Harlingen, Texas. A second celebration will take place on Saturday, May 17, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Arrangements have been entrusted to Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home, 1400 W. Business 77, San Benito, TX 78586.
