Ronald “Orangy” Ehrp was born July 1, 1946, in the Alta hospital to William and Marian (Rydstrom) Ehrp. He and his brothers, Warren and Donnie, along with their sister Carolyn attended school in Schaller. During his younger years he enjoyed going to drive-in movies, basketball games and drag racing. Orangy got his nickname after he dyed his hair blonde and it turned orange, a nickname that would stick with him through the years.
He was united in marriage to Candace Werkmeister from Wall Lake on Aug. 16, 1969. They were blessed with four children: Kim, Carrie, Matt and Gail.
Ron’s life work included building silos and lugging beef. Later he started farming and feeding cattle and had his own corn-shelling business. Ron and Candy had their own business with Black Angus cattle and were active in breeding and going to sales to build their herd. Ron was involved in his children’s 4-H projects at the fair and looked forward to taking them to club calf sales to pick out their next project. He enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and going to car shows. Ron loved restoring cars and tractors, taking his son to swap meets and watching a good football or baseball game. In his retirement he found enjoyment in cleaning up his family farm which he resided on from 1989 until passing. He looked forward to nights spent around a bonfire enjoying some Black Velvet.
Ron instilled a hard work ethic into his children, something that has been handed down to his grandchildren.
Ron passed away on Feb. 22, 2025. He spent his final days surrounded by his family making memories that will be cherished forever.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Kim (Jeremy) Garrett of Anamosa; Carrie McDanel of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Matt (Katie) Ehrp of Early; and Gail (Adam) Konopasek of Dakota Dunes, S.D.; grandchildren: Ashlynn and Macen Garrett, Dalles (Kristen) Johnson, Lance and Emma Weber, Tyler and Hannah Ehrp, and Marcus, Preston, Payten and William Konopasek; and great-grandchildren, Nolan and Audrey Johnson. He is also survived by his brothers, Warren (Linda) and Donnie Ehrp; and sister Carolyn Weise.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Marian Ehrp.
