Ronald “Ron” Lee Deiber was born in Buck Grove, at home on Oct. 4, 1941, to Leona (Weiss) and Walter Deiber. He had two sisters and four brothers. Ron was educated in country school for eight grades and had wonderful memories of that time. When called upon, he joined the National Guard. Ron worked as a lineman for North Central Line Service for 10 years putting up electric poles all over the state of Iowa. He was still proud of that work.

On Oct. 10, 1964, he married Judy (Christiansen) Deiber and they had two children, Michele and Erik.

In 1969, Ron and Judy bought a farm west of Alta. From that time on, Ron worked on his farm and served as the superintendent of Municipal Utilities in Alta. He was never afraid of hard work and served on the Alta Fire Department from 1972-1982. He served as a leader on the NIMECA board for 43 years and the board of the Corn Belt Power Cooperative for 35 years.

Ron was a very special man. He loved GOOD country music, John Deere’s and the Kansas City Chiefs. His absolute joy was always farming. If you were his neighbor, you always ended up becoming his friend.

Ron married Carol (Hicks) Deiber on Dec. 19, 2000, and acquired four more children and 14 more grandchildren.

Ron is survived by his wife Carol; his children: Michele Deiber Kumm (Eric Kumm); Erik (Diana) Deiber; Chris and Dale Yommer; Jeff and Traci Popowich; Paul and Jennifer Popowich; Sally and Joe Cochran. He was Poppop to Isaiah, Aaron, Emilee, Bobby, Tyler, Clay, Josh, DJ, Chloe, Sheena, Zac, Logan, Joey, Paul Jr, Luke, Caleb and 14 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Lloyd Deiber and Alan Deiber; many beloved nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leona and Walter Deiber; sisters, Luverne and Marian; two brothers, Glen and Wallace; and Ron’s first wife, Judy.
