Robert C. Jacobson, 90, of Minnetonka, Minn., formerly of St. Louis Park, Minn., peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on Feb. 6, 2025. He was a beloved husband, father, brother and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Robert was born Dec. 8, 1934, in Blue Earth, Minn., to Selmer and Florence (Fenske) Jacobson. Robert grew up in Bricelyn, Minn., and graduated from Bricelyn high school. Robert played many sports including basketball, baseball and football. As quarterback, he often threw the football to his brother Don. His baseball team went to the high school state tournament and Robert also was the ping pong champ of Faribault County.
Robert worked for his father’s excavating company for a year before joining the Army. He was stationed in France and took advantage of exploring Europe on weekends and even met Pope Pius XII. After the Army, he graduated from Mankato State University.
Robert met LaDonna Sump at a wedding of mutual friends in Bricelyn. They were married in Storm Lake on Dec. 9, 1961, during a blizzard. They lived over 60 years in St. Louis Park, Minn. Robert worked as an auditor and payroll manager during his career. He was a longtime employee at Red Owl grocery stores in Hopkins, Minn., and ended his career at the University of St. Thomas. In retirement, Robert enjoyed golf, gardening and dog sitting for Snowball and Bella.
Robert was preceded in death by parents, Selmer and Florence; sister Delores More; brother Donavan Jacobson; sister Janice Jacobson; brothers-in-law, Kenneth More and Wayne Sump; and niece Shauna More.
He will be missed by his loving wife LaDonna; daughter Lori Drenckhahn (Theron); son Michael Jacobson; step grandchildren: Nathaniel Drenckhahn (Diana), Jeremy Drenckhahn (Jessica), Melissa Vanderlinde (Nick); step great-grandchild Owen; sisters-in-law: Dolores Jacobson, Lorraine Wohlhuter (Dean) and Lorraine Sump; brother-in-law Robert Sump; nephews: Charles More (Carol), David More, Paul More (Susan), John Jacobson (Jodi), Mark Wohlhuter (Mary) and Terry Sump (Shelly); nieces: Mary Bell (Bob), Renee Grimsman (Scott), Jean Jaros, Julie Sutherland (Andy) and Amy Jacobson; other relatives and many friends.
Many thanks to the loving care and support of Amira Choice Minnetonka staff and the Grace Hospice team. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Christ Memorial Lutheran Church or to the donor’s choice.
Celebration of Life services will be held at Gearty-Delmore Funeral Chapel (15800 37th Ave. N) in Plymouth, Minn., on Wednesday, March 12, at 11 a.m. Visitation one hour prior. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minn.
