Robert Joseph Flowers was born Jan. 6, 1948, to Walter and Margaret Flowers. After battling cancer and diabetes, Bob passed away on Jan. 14, 2025, at Medical City Hospital, Arlington, Texas.
He attended St. Mary’s Schools in Storm Lake, graduating high school in 1966. After graduation Bob entered Divine Word Seminary.He spent his first year at Duxbury, Mass. The following three years were at Divine Word College, Epworth, graduating in 1970 with a bachelors degree in philosophy. He then entered his Novitiate at Bay St. Louis, Miss., for one year. Followed by one year at the Chicago Theological Union.
In May 1972, Bob elected to leave the seminary. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving a 20-year career as a chaplain’s assistant. Duty assignments included Washington, D.C.; Baumholder, Germany; Ft. Wainwright, Alaska; and Ft. Irwin, Calif. He retired from the Army in May 1992.
In addition to writing and playing music on his accordion and keyboard, Bob loved to travel. He traveled extensively throughout the U.S., Europe, Japan, Korea and Central America. He had an intense interest in all modes of transportation: bus, train and planes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Margaret Flowers; and two brothers, William and John.
Surviving siblings include: Nancy Lynch of Storm Lake; Rita (Joe) Long of North Liberty; Carol Karr of Fonda; Rose Smithee of Forney, Texas; Richard (Maria) Flowers of Aurora, Colo.; and James Flowers of Arlington, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob chose to be cremated. Internment will be at a later date at the DFW National Cemetery, Dallas, Texas.
