LuVerne “Bud” V. Rydberg, 100, of Alta died Nov. 1, 2025, at his home surrounded by family.

Funeral services will take place Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 11 a.m. at Hope Evangelical Free Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Arthur. Visitation will take place Tuesday, Nov. 4, from 4-7 p.m. at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hidden Aces Christian Center online at www.hacamps.org and in the donation note please write: “Bud Rydberg Memorial Fund” or checks can be payable to Hidden Acres Christian Center memo line: “Bud Rydberg Memorial Fund” and mailed to: 3837 Union Ave., Dayton, IA 50530.

Bud was born Dec. 26, 1924, to Joe and Ethel (Carlberg) Rydberg in Eureka Township, Sac County. He grew up in the farming community of Galva. Bud graduated from Galva High School in 1942. 

In 1946, Bud joined the United States Army where he served his country until he was honorably discharged in 1947. During his time in the military, he was a Counter Intelligence Investigator and received the Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal in Germany. Bud was the longest surviving WWII Veteran from the Alta VFW.

On Aug. 26, 1947, Bud married Lois Marie Lindgren at Arthur Evangelical Free Church. Bud and Lois lived in Galva and then moved to the Arthur area and farmed for many years. To this union, six children were born: Gayle, LaDon, Kent, Anne, Paul and Joan. Lois passed away Jan. 22, 1985. 

On Nov. 15, 1986, Bud married Marjorie Boger Graham at Arthur Evangelical Free Church. L.J. Rathjen was welcomed to this union. They made their home in Ida Grove, Storm Lake and Alta. Bud worked at Sliefert Funeral Home and drove the cancer bus.

Bud was a member of Arthur Evangelical Free Church. In 1988, he and Marge moved to Storm Lake and joined Hope Evangelical Free Church. He was very instrumental in building the new church in both locations.

Bud is survived by his wife Marge; his children: Gayle Craig, LaDon   Rydberg, Kent (Brenda) Rydberg, Anne (Rollin) Nordell, Paul (Nancy) Rydberg and Joan (Tadd) Chapman; 29 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; sister LaMerle Wilson; sisters-in-law: Janice Rydberg, Lois Catero, Cheri Boger and Betty (Wayne) Olson; brothers-in-law: Richard (Bobbie) Lindgren, Dennis (Janet) Lindgren; and special little guy, Isaiah Celis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Ethel Rydberg; parents-in-law, Algot and Ellen Lindgren and Bill and Alice Boger; wife Lois Rydberg; son L.J. Rathjen; son-in-law Harold Craig; daughter-in-law Brenda Martin Rydberg; siblings: Relaine (Eugene) Grotjohn, Dwayne Rydberg, Marlys (Bruce) Bennett, Joetta Rydberg, Ronald (Mary) Rydberg; in-laws: Roy Wilson, Iver (Peggy) Lindgren, Virginia (Charles) McGee, Verna (Milo) Devlin, Harold Petersohn, Paul (Mary Ann) Lindgren, Ruth Lindgren, Bill (Joanne) Boger, Shirley (Bill) McBride, Joyce (Bob) Johnson, Carole Boger, Jim Boger, Roger Boger and Kenneth Boger.
