A new display at Witter Gallery features work by three cousins: Susan Clough Briggs and Candy Clough of Storm Lake and Todd “Wad” Clough of Denver, Colo. (Their dads are brothers). The artists’ contrasting styles make this a must-see. In addition, much of the artwork is for sale. A reception is scheduled for May 24, from 3-5 p.m.
Susan taught special ed at Storm Lake High School for many years, then retired with her husband Troy to New Mexico in 2017. At this time she started painting and realized how much she loved it. The Cloughs moved back to Storm Lake in 2022. Susan’s work depicts scenery from New Mexico, Storm Lake and elsewhere.
Candy is a familiar face around Storm Lake. The former elementary teacher and piano instructor is a volunteer at Santa’s Castle and Witter Gallery. Her love of sewing, quilting and collage is evident in the pieces she has put together in this show. Candy tastefully combines photos, buttons, fabric and more on canvas or under glass.
Todd lives on a ranch in the mountains west of Denver, where he works as a fly-fishing guide/instructor and trout rancher. He hangs with his dog Bucky, goats, chickens and honeybees. He has been producing artwork and showing in galleries for 40-plus years. He paints with a sense of humor, a lack of pretense and a dash of spunk.
