Eric Hallengren

Eric Hallengren, 43, of Albert City died March 3, 2025, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.

Celebration of Life services were held Saturday, March 8, at Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids.

Eric James Hallengren was born Sept. 2, 1981, at Alta Memorial Hospital to James and Linda Hallengren. Eric attended Alta Community Schools, graduating in 2000.

He moved to Rochester, Minn., and was accepted into the Rochester Plumbing Union as an apprentice. He became a Journeyman Pipefitter working in Minnesota and neighboring states. In 2004, he had a son, Alexander James Hallengren, with Eryn Malley. They were together for several years.

He moved to Alabama and married Jessica Olson in 2011. A son, Harrison Meryl Hallengren, was born in 2013. While in Alabama, Eric worked as a pipefitter traveling to neighboring states and often working at nuclear power plants in Tennessee.

In 2014, Eric was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He eventually moved back to Iowa where he continued cancer treatments. He later had a bone stem. He continued with treatment on and off until his passing.

Eric lived with Becky Sanchez in Albert City since 2018. He enjoyed spending time with his sons, her family, gardening, fishing, golfing and trying to perfect barbecuing. He also liked to play guitar and designed and made several electric guitars.

Eric passed away suddenly on the evening of March 3, while visiting his brother in Cedar Rapids awaiting an appointment in Iowa City the next day.

Eric was a loved son, brother, father and friend. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his parents, James and Linda Hallengren of Sioux Rapids; brother and family: Dana, Theresa, Eleanora and Ebba of Cedar Rapids; sons, Alex of Pine Island, Minn.; Harrison of Rochester, Minn.; dear friend Becky Sanchez of Albert City and her family: Jenna, Erin, Vinny and Gus; Eric’s grandmother: Betty Punke; aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
