New this year: Howl-O-Ween Pet Costume Contest

Posted

Storm Lake United invites the community to a spooktacular Halloween celebration, Chills ‘n Thrills, featuring the annual Spook the Street Trick-or-Treating. This family-friendly event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. to noon and filled with Halloween- and Fall-themed fun for all ages, bringing together local businesses, families and even some furry friends for a morning of treats, costumes and fun.

Come downtown dressed in your best Halloween costumes for an exciting morning of trick-or-treating! Kids and parents are invited to stroll through Lake Avenue, where local business owners will be handing out candy and spooky surprises. With over 1000 expected attendees, Lake Avenue will be transformed into a Halloween wonderland, perfect for making memories and taking plenty of photos. Trick-or-treating begins at 10 a.m., so be ready to enjoy the fun!

A new event for this year is the Caring Paws Howl-O-Ween Pet Costume Contest. Dress up your pets and join us for the Howl-O-Ween Pet Costume Contest, hosted by Caring Paws Rescue. The contest takes place between the 500 and 600 blocks of Lake Avenue, with registration starting at 10:15 a.m. Judging will begin at 10:45 a.m., with winners announced at 11:15 a.m. Categories include: Best Dressed, Most Original and Funniest.

The $1 entry fee per pet will be covered by Kaleidoscope Marketing, and all proceeds benefit Caring Paws Rescue. Free-will donations will be accepted and the complete rules are posted on www.visitstormlake.com.

Pets must be on leashes or in carriers, and owners must remain with their pets throughout the event. Come support a great cause while showing off your pet’s spooktacular style! Prizes include Storm Lake Bucks and other special treats for the winners.

In addition to the trick-or-treating and pet costume contest, there will be plenty of other family-friendly activities, including the Jones Nursery Pop-A-Shot, where you can test your basketball skills and the Witter Gallery Monster Makeover. Students from BVU and St. Mary’s will be hosting games, and to warm up, be sure to stop by the Luxe Lily Warming Station during your spooky stroll.

The 500-700 blocks of Lake Avenue will be closed to traffic from 9 a.m. until noon as a safety measure. While the stores will remain open, parking may be a challenge with the expected attendees. The streets will be open before 9 a.m. and will reopen at noon for shopping convenience.

Bring your costumes, your pets and your festive spirit for a morning of family-friendly fun in downtown Storm Lake. We can’t wait to see you there!
