Donald E. Peters, 80, of Alta died May 15, 2025 at his residence.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 21, at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Private family burial will be held at Storm Lake Cemetery at a later date.

Donald was born Dec. 26, 1944, to Eddie and Edna (Lamaak) Peters in Peterson. He was baptized and confirmed in his faith at First Congregational in Peterson. He attended school in Sioux Valley graduating in 1962. Don went on to attend Northwestern College in Orange City, where he played basketball. He later attended Buena Vista University in Storm Lake. Don also served in the United States Army Reserves with an honorable discharge. He worked 45 years and retired from Wilsons Foods/Tyson in Cherokee as a superintendent.

On Dec. 13, 1986, Don was united in marriage to Marilyn Smith. Throughout the years, Don and Marilyn enjoyed golfing and playing cards with friends. He enjoyed watching the neighbor kids play and while sitting outside he would often be seen waving to all the neighbors as they passed by. Don was an avid sports fan. You would always see Don watching and supporting his children and grandchildren at school sporting events. Last summer, at the Alta Ballpark, you could find Don rescuing his daughter Wendy to help man the grill for the concession stand alongside his grandson Aidan on many busy nights. More than anything, Don treasured time with his family.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish Don’s memory are his daughters, Angie Peters of Omaha, Neb.; Wendy Cavazos and her son Aidan of Lakeside; stepdaughter: Jodi (Tom) Ippolito and their daughters, Ann Marie and Georgia of Lantana, Texas; sister Donna Jackson of Culpeper, Va.; brother Larry (Joleen) Peters of Rembrandt; stepgrandchildren: AJ (Katelyn) Smith and their children: Brecken, Jax and Knox of Storm Lake; Jenna (Jordan) Hinkeldey and their children, Lawson and Ryker of Alta; MacKenzie (Andrew) Wimmer and their children, Finley and Addison of Arnolds Park; extended family and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Edna Peters; wife Marilyn Peters; stepson Bradley G. Smith; and son-in-law Jorge Cavazos Jr.
