Donald Darrell Hansen “Snuffy,” 68, of Alta passed away on June 14, 2025, at his residence.

Celebration of Life services will take place Friday, June 20, at 11 a.m. at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Darrell was born on April 28, 1957, in Storm Lake to Donald and Lela (Lookingbill) Hansen. In Darrell’s early teen years, he was baptized at Elk Baptist Church north of Alta. He attended Alta High School, and in 1975 he began field tiling with Art Miller. He then began working at Alta Implement as a farm equipment mechanic. From there, he continued his mechanic work with Mellow Dent, John Deere in Storm Lake and John Deere in Spencer. Before starting his mechanic job in Spencer, he was a custodian at the school building in Rembrandt. He also served on the Alta Fire Department for a few years while living in Alta. Darrell retired from his passion of working on farm equipment due to his diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis.

Darrell was diagnosed with MS while working at John Deere in Spencer. He then relocated to Alta to be closer with his family. Due to his diagnosis, Darrell found enjoyment in assisting others in yard work like his father. Darrell enjoyed watching NASCAR, bowling and collecting John Deere and Corvette anniversary memorabilia. You would find Darrell in the pits at Buena Vista Raceway, and driving his 1990 red corvette around town. He also took part in the demolition derby at the Buena Vista County Fair in Alta. He relished loaning out his special Corvette to friends and family to use for proms and homecoming parades.

Left to cherish his memory are siblings: Victoria Hansen of Alta; Dan Hansen of Fort Dodge; Doug (Pam) Hansen of Armstrong; Lynette Hansen of Alta; Pam (John) Henderson of Alta; and Denton (Melissa) Hansen of Alta; nephews: Jamie Haake (Amy Taylor), Zachary Sherman (Erin Miller), Thomas (Stephanie) Hansen, Aaron (Kelsey) Hansen, Chris (Sophia) York; and nieces: Miranda (Kyle) Wolcott, Jennifer Goodman and Danielle Lyon; great-nephews and nieces: Joshua, Jersey and Madison Haake; Cadence and Chloe Sherman; Braylon and Brooks Hansen; Summer and Carsen Hansen; Ari and Kaie Goodman; Cameron, Ryker and Tanner Lyon; Brittany, Alex and Wyatt York; great-great-nephew Jeremiah Haake; aunt and uncle, Glen (Shirley) Lookingbill.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Lela Hansen; grandparents: Peter and Anna Hansen and Jesse and Nancy Lookingbill; along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.

“Though we mourn your absence, your spirit lives on in our hearts.”
