Dolores Mattson

Dolores Mattson, 93, of Alta died Nov. 17, 2024, at UnityPoint St. Lukes in Sioux City.

Funeral services will take place Saturday, Nov. 23, at 1:30 p.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Rembrandt. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery in Alta. Visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 22, from 4:30-7 p.m. at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

Dolores was born Feb. 5, 1931, to Rudolph and Bertha (Rolfs) Holst in Hartley. In 1933, Dolores was baptized in her pastor’s home in Everly. In 1948, Dolores confirmed her faith at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly and graduated from Everly High School. Most recently, she was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Alta. She also served as president of ELCW.

On Nov. 30, 1952, Dolores was united in marriage to Wilbert Stanley Mattson at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly. To this union, five children were born: William, Julie, Laurie, Dennis and Karen.

Dolores worked as a secretary at Sackett Law Firm in Spencer. In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting, gardening and camping. She also loved dancing and playing cards. She was an avid baker and could be depended on for providing a delicious cake for any occasion. Dolores delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. More than anything, Dolores treasured time with her family and friends. Dolores will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish Dolores’s memory include her children: William (Susan) Mattson of Alta; Julie (Dennis) Brown of Ames; Laura (Bruce) Carnine of Spirit Lake; Dennis Mattson of Alta; Karen (Ron) Stout of Maple Valley, Wash.; brother Jerry (Pat) Holst of Everly; grandchildren: Trisha (John Heller) Booth of Milford; Brian (Monica) Mattson of Alta; Daniel (Kolbie) Mattson of Alta; Jared (Lindsy) Brown of Polk City; Tim (Heidi) Brown of Ames; Aaron (Kim) Brown of Ames; Evan (Natalie) Brown of Ankeny; Alison Akin of Milwaukee, Wis.; Sidney (Sarah) Akin of Earlham; Brad Mattson of Alta; Mike (Katie) Mattson of Grimes; Zach (Brenda) Mattson of Alta; great-grandchildren: Halee, Grace and Abby Booth; Kyler and Kaylee Mattson; Caitlyn and Dustin Mattson; Jaylee and Jaxson Martinez; Brooksley, Hadley and Olivia Brown; Braxtyn and Braetyn Brown; Kinley, Emersyn and Bennett Brown; Kysen Brown; Mia Katter, Skylynn, Sebastian and Sawyer Akin; Mariah, Tate and Tegan Mattson; Evelyn McFarland; Kolbey and Brant Mattson; great-great-grandchildren: Carter and Jameson Harmening, and Anna’Lee Miggins; extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rudy and Bertha Holst; husband Wilbert Mattson; parents-in-law, W.C. and Lula Mattson; and niece Brenda Holst.
