Dennis Warner

Dennis E. Warner, 74, of Alta died April 8, 2025, at Accura Healthcare of Cherokee.

Celebration of Life services will take place Saturday, April 26, at 11 a.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta. Burial will be in Scandinavian Cemetery in Alta. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Dennis's name to the Alta Fire Department or your local VA office.

Dennis Elroy Warner was born Dec. 31,1950, in Cherokee Community Hospital to Gladys (Hallengren) and Noble Warner. Dennis graduated high school in Storm Lake. He entered the Army in August 1969 on the delayed entry program and made it his career. He began by proudly serving in the Vietnam War. Throughout his military career he had many jobs, beginning as an engine mechanic for trucks and tanks. He was a Platoon Leader, Drill Sgt, Operations Sgt, an Inspector General and he ended his military career in the Pentagon doing personnel in 1989.

He married Susan Smith on July 18,1972, in Storm Lake. They traveled to their first home in Ft. Knox, Ky., where Dennis was stationed. Throughout his career he traveled to Louisiana, Germany, Vietnam, Kentucky, Maryland, Korea and Virginia. Their children William (Chester) Warner and Denise (Warner) Hull were both born in Fort Knox Kentucky.

After retiring from the Army, Dennis went to work at Midwest Industries while he took classes to become an electrician. He worked as an electrician for Menninga and Mike’s electronics and then retired a second time in 2007 due to health issues.

Dennis loved spending time outdoors fishing, camping and golfing. Spending time with family was very important to him. He also loved to ride his Harley and have a beer with friends.

Dennis belonged to his local VFW and American Legion.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Susan of Alta; children: Chester (Audi) of Carroll; Denise (Matt) Hull of Alta; his grandchildren: Dylan (Jill) Hull of Alta; Drake (Aleah) Warner of Carroll; Jacob Hull of Verona, Wis.; Abby Warner of Templeton; Lexi (Kenny) Hodge of Carroll; Kota Holiday of Carroll; Marissa, Hailie and Garrett Brentlinger of Allen, Neb.; Jonas (Samantha) Kelp of Yankton, S.D. He is also survived by his great-granddaughter Madi Hull of Alta.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Noble and Gladys Warner; his sister Susan Dighero; a niece, Kerri Dighero; and many aunts and uncles.
