Delbert Jerry Persoon, 83, of Lakeside died Jan. 1, 2025, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Funeral services will take place Monday, Jan. 6, at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, Jan. 5, from 3-5 p.m. at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.
Delbert Jerry Persoon was born Aug. 22, 1941, to Kenneth and Evelyn (Bannert) Persoon in Hudson, S.D. He attended Rock Valley School. Delbert was baptized at First Baptist Church in Storm Lake, where he remained a lifelong member. He served the church in many ways including serving as usher and Sunday School teacher.
Delbert was united in marriage to Sandra Kay Woodard on May 18, 1962, at Church of Christ in Cherokee. To this union, three children were born: Randy, Chris and Philip. Delbert and Sandra enjoyed an Alaskan Cruise to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
Delbert worked in farming for 25 years and he worked for American Concrete for nearly as many years. While his children were young, Delbert was a Boy Scout leader and a Cub Scout leader. In his free time, Delbert enjoyed gardening, riding his bike and fishing. You could find him lending a helping hand to his neighbors. For many years, he also cleaned ABC Park. In his later years, Delbert enjoyed completing Sudoku puzzles. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Delbert is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sandra Persoon of Lakeside; children: Randy (Pam) Persoon of Alta; Chris (Michelle) Persoon of Storm Lake; Philip (Brenda) Persoon of Coon Rapids, Minn.; brothers: Keith Persoon of Texas; Doug (Rebecca) Persoon of Indiana; sisters: Bonnie Peterson of Sergeant Bluff; Janet Lee of Forest Grove, Ore.; grandchildren: Amanda (Barny) Stout, Robin Dow, Melanie (Andy) DeMan, Andrea (Ryan) Schaffer, Bailey Segar Enno, Stephie Segar Enno and Travis Schossow; great-grandchildren: Laycee, Symbre, Payton, Zayden, Iris, Lakota, Adrian, Kaitlyn, Grace, Jaden, Erick, Gabe, Hazel, Rylee, Roran, Avery, Aliyah, Khalessi and Travis Jr.; extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Evelyn Persoon; parents-in-law, David and Delores Jensen; sister Gloria Kistner; siblings-in-law: Fred Jensen, Geraldine Persoon, Ivana Lewis, Russ Woodward and Dave Jensen.
