David Johnson

David L. Johnson, 81, of Storm Lake went to be with the Lord, Sept. 24, 2021, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 29, at 11 am at Hope Evangelical Free Church in Storm Lake. Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 29, from 9:30-11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be Friday, Oct. 1, at 1 p.m. at Cooperstown Cemetery in Cooperstown, N.D. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of arrangements.

David L. Johnson was born in Littlefork, Minn. to Clarence and Florence (Southwick) Johnson. David grew up attending grade school in Lake Eunice, Minn. He graduated high school from McHenry, N.D. in 1958. David served with the Army National Guard. David attended Trinity Christian College in Chicago, Ill. He also went to Oak Hills Bible Institute and graduated in 1967 with a Pastoral Degree. Through the years, Dave served as Pastor of Evangelical Free Churches in Littlefork, Minn.; Benson, Minn.; Plevna, Mont.; Ismay, Mont.; Wilton, N.D.; and Interim Pastor in Storm Lake.

On June 29, 1963, David was united in marriage to Julienne Liljenquist in Cooperstown, N.D. They were blessed with four children: Virginia, Carolyn, Martha and Nathan. Julienne passed away in 1990 and David later married long-time family friend Judith Brenner on March 15, 2003 in Storm Lake. The combined children live in six different states.

David’s hobbies included spending time with family, kids, grandchildren and visiting friends. Dave and Judy enjoyed a trip to Israel, Jordan and Egypt in 2008. Dave was a general handy man and always ready and willing to serve someone in need. David was highly involved within his church teaching, preaching and doing maintenance. Dave loved reading God’s Word, the Bible. He passionately proclaimed to people of God’s Word, His love, His redemption of sins by the shedding of Jesus’ blood, and the hope of eternity for all those who call on Jesus’ Name.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Judy Brenner Johnson; her sons: Richard Brenner and Douglas Brenner and her grandchildren Kathryn and Allan; Dave’s children: Virginia (Arnold) Rychner of Ekalaka, Mont. and her children Austin (Cheyenne), Julienne (Shane), Rose and Ryan; Carolyn Raville of Sioux Falls, S.D. and her children Caleb (Kayla), Carmen, Cacey (Sam), Christina and Candace; Martha (Steve) King of Valley City, N.D. and their children Daniel (Cassie); and Andrew (Elisabeth); Nathan (DaNae) Johnson of Laporte, Minn. and their children Joshua, Jonathan and Joy; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bert (Beverly) Johnson in Florida; sisters: Esther (Larry) Frederick in California, Rose Marie Ward Johnson in Georgia, Mary Ellen (Roger) Franks in Maryland. Other family members include numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.

David is preceded in death by his parents, grandson Corey Raville, and his first wife Julienne Johnson.

David would be honored for all to know, believe and confess Jesus Christ as Savior, which is summed up in the following Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:3b-4 “Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.”
