David Harold Anderson, 98, of Storm Lake died Sept. 30, 2026, at home surrounded by his family.
Celebration of life services will take place at a later date. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Dave was born Nov. 25, 1927, to John and Agnes (Fisk) Anderson in Chicago, Ill. He attended school In Alcester, S.D., graduating from Alcester High School in 1946. In 1951, Dave entered the United States Marines and served during the Korean War. He achieved the Navy Occupation Medal, National Defense Service Medal and was Outstanding Marksman of his platoon. After his honorable discharge in 1953, Dave attended Coyne Electrical School. He graduated in 1954 and worked as an electrical engineer for many years.
On May 6, 1955, Dave was united in marriage to Charleen Rush in Hawarden. They were blessed with three children: Debra, Jane and Barbara.
Dave was a member of United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, where he served as an usher and member of the choir. He was also an active member of the United Methodist Church Men’s Group. Dave served his community through Meals on Wheels, the Lion’s Club and Toastmasters. In his free time, Dave enjoyed golf and reading. He was a nature lover and found joy in feeding the squirrels and birds in his backyard. On game day, Dave could be found cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes. He looked forward to trips to Anna Maria Island in Florida. More than anything, Dave treasured time with his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish Dave’s memory include his children: Debra Starr, Jane (Jeff) Johannesen and Barbara (Tim) Murphy; grandchildren: Amber (Ted Johnson) Starr, David (Shelbi) Johannesen, Jake (Chanel) Johannesen, Claire (Matthew) Creason, Eric Murphy and Ethan Murphy; great-grandchildren: Avery James Starr, Emily Lisette Creason, Julia Ann Creason, Clay Michael Johannesen and Wesley Anders Johannesen; extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Agnes Anderson; brothers, Harold Anderson and Clare Anderson; son-in-law Larry Starr; and nephews, Larry Anderson and Tom Anderson.
