Art Cullen, editor and publisher, said that the move had been considered for some time. Threats of tariffs on Canadian newsprint prompted the decision. Tariffs could increase printing costs by more than 20%. The tariff was suspended for 30 days, but Cullen said the handwriting was already on the wall.
