Storm Lake youth soccer continued its recent success Oct. 25-26 as the Under-12 Select Team took first place in the Shoot the Moon Tournament at Adel.
Storm Lake’s first pool play game was a 6-0 win over the Glenwood Rams. The team was led in scoring by Erick Romo with three goals. Anthony Krier and Marcos Rosales each added a goal.

Buena Vista split a pair of five-set volleyball matches last Saturday at the Gustavus Adolphus Triangular to wrap up its season, posting the program’s highest single-season win total since 2005.
BVU opened with the host Gusties, and after falling 25-22 in the opening set, fought back to grab a 2-1 lead after 25-21 and 25-19 victories. Gustavus Adolphus, however, rallied to force the decisive fifth set after a 25-20 win in game four and then went on to take the match with a 15-12 win in game five.

Newell-Fonda tops Remsen St. Mary’s
Mustangs get G-T/ R-A on Monday
Brady Bohe rushed for 125 yards and three touchdowns as No. 3 Newell-Fonda scored 21 points in the first quarter en route to a 55-8 win over Remsen St. Mary’s in the first round of the 8-man state playoffs on Wednesday night at Newell.
Newell-Fonda, now 10-0, will play Graettinger-Terril/ Ruthven-Ayrshire (7-3) on Monday at 7 p.m. in Newell.

Beavers hit the road to take on Luther

Buena Vista has been involved in a lot of close games where it just came up short.
That statement can also be attached to Luther. The Norse have had a similar season to the Beavers in that regard.
Two teams trying to break through and get over the hump in close games meet on Saturday in an Iowa Conference matchup in Decorah.

Mustangs win in 4 games to advance on
Claudia Larsen went 39-for-47 in hitting with 21 kills, was 16-for-17 in serving and charted nine digs and seven blocks to lead Newell-Fonda to a four-game win over Storm Lake St. Mary’s in a Class 1A regional quarterfinal match on Tuesday at Newell.
Game scores were 25-21, 25-19, 20-25, 25-13.
Newell-Fonda, now 24-15, will play Harris-Lake Park in a regional semifinal match tonight in Lake Park.

Anna Davis went 21-for-26 in hitting with 14 kills to help power No. 7 Ridge View to a three-game win over Manson Northwest Webster in a Class 2A regional quarterfinal match on Tuesday night at Schaller.
Game scores were 25-20, 25-16, 25-14.
Ridge View, now 33-7, plays Sioux Central (20-11) in a regional semifinal match tonight in Schaller.
Jadyn Mohr went 23-for-23 in hitting with 10 kills for the Raptors. Lexi Johnson was 30-for-34 with seven kills and Kyra Hoffman 11-for-12 with seven kills. Emily Brosamle went 11-for-11 with four kills.

Sioux Central rallied from a 2-0 deficit by winning the final three games to keep its season alive as the Rebels beat Pocahontas Area in five games in a Class 2A regional quarterfinal match on Tuesday night at Pocahontas.
Game scores were 22-25, 17-25, 27-25, 25-17, 15-12.
Sioux Central, now 20-11, will play No. 7 Ridge View (33-7) in a regional semifinal match tonight in Schaller.

Buena Vista led 1-0 at the half before scoring a pair of insurance goals near the end of the second half en route to a 3-1 Iowa Conference victory over Coe on Tuesday.
Tyler Lafferty, playing in his final college game, put BVU on the scoreboard first with his fourth goal of the year just 15 minutes in. The goal is also the 15th of his career and he finished his career ranked second all-time in goals and tied for first in assists with 12.

Mustangs throttle Wolverines, 34-18
Gabe Podraza rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown and also threw for another score to help No. 3-ranked Newell-Fonda beat No. 4-ranked West Bend-Mallard 34-18 to capture the district title last Friday night in an 8-man game in Newell.
Dalton Anderson recovered a blocked punt in the end zone with 2 seconds left in the first half to give Newell-Fonda a 20-6 lead at the break.
