Dale Wilson

Dale R. Wilson, 81, of Newell died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018 in Casa Grande, Ariz.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 8, at 1st Congregational United Church of Christ in Newell. Burial was in Newell Cemetery. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell was in charge of the arrangements.

Dale Richard Wilson was born May 27, 1936 in Buena Vista County, the son of Emery E. and Verna E. (Schumann) Wilson. He was baptized and confirmed at United Methodist Church in Newell and later joined 1st Congregational United Church of Christ. He rarely missed a Sunday morning service.

Growing up, Dale attended school in Newell where he graduated from Newell Providence in 1954 and attended Buena Vista College.

On Dec. 31, 1957 Dale was united in marriage to Ruth Irene Rogers in Pocahontas. Together, they were blessed with three daughters: Lorelei, Linda and Julie.

Dale worked for the Albert City Creamery, Laurens Dairy, Mauer and Midwest Construction, Grau Motors, Grau Implement and Newell Implement.

Dale and Irene enjoyed their homes in Newell, East Okoboji and Casa Grande, Ariz.

Dale loved dogs and music. He played trumpet, trombone, piano, organ and the accordion, most of which he taught himself to play, having a keen ear for music. He enjoyed singing in the church choir and with a barber shop quartet. He had a love for anything with a motor and “wheeled and dealed” up until his death. He took great delight at playing practical jokes. Dale had many friends and never went anywhere where someone didn’t know him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters: Lori (Tim) Johnson of Hartford, S.D.; Linda (Dave) Miller of Storm Lake; Julie (Pat Sutter) Wilson of Des Moines; grandchildren: Justin (fiancé, Alyssa Niesen) Johnson; Aaron (Aly) Johnson; Staci Johnson; Devin Miller; Maleia (Nate) Gessner; brother-in-law, Roger (Barb) Waggie of Spencer; niece, Kim Waggie; extended family and many friends.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth Irene; sister, Marjorie Waggie; and parents-in-law, Orville and Margaret Rogers.
