James Forstrom

James “Jim” Forstrom, 82, of Rockford, Ill. passed from death to eternal life on Monday, Dec. 4, 2017 at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center.

Jim was born on June 13, 1935 in Spencer, the son of Theodore and Josephine (Nordine) Forstrom. He married Corliss Mogensen on June 15, 1957, the same day he graduated from Iowa State University; he went on to Trinity Seminary and graduated in 1960.  For the next 10 years he served Evangelical Free Churches in Minneapolis and Crystal, Minn.; from 1970 to 1992 he served First Free Church in Rockford, Ill. In 1992, Jim returned to Minneapolis to serve at the National Office of the EFCA in missions. After retiring in 2000, he worked in the archives department there. In 2012, Jim and Corey moved back to Rockford to reside at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center.

Survivors include his wife, Corey; son, Mark (Cindy) Forstrom; daughter, Shannon (Larry) Walsh; grandchildren: Brenda (Tim) Pierce, Lexi Forstrom and Ila Walsh; sisters: Sharol (Craig) Anderson, Sondra Merrick, Jan (Tom Keating) Forstrom and Joy (Jim) Miller; and 14 nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 19, in First Free Rockford. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 18, in First Free Rockford. Burial will be in Albert City.
