Randy Ray was born June 13, 1952 to Elmer and Lois (Fifield) Jacobson. In 1952, he was baptized at First Presbyterian Church in Schaller.  He attended school at Schaller Community School, graduating in 1970. He continued his education at Iowa Central Community College at Fort Dodge where he received an automotive science degree. In 1972, he was confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Schaller.

On July 7, 1972, Randy married Cynthia Ann Schmidt at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Schaller. After their marriage, they moved to Storm Lake, where Randy became a member of Grace Lutheran Church. Randy worked at various dealerships in Storm Lake over the years. In 1983, he opened his own business at Randy’s Repair. He owned and operated his shop until 2009 when his health required him to retire. This last summer he enjoyed mowing at Alta Golf and Country Club.

Randy enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and golfing. His greatest golfing achievement was getting a hole in one on the eighth hole at Alta Golf and Country Club. He loved to tell stories about his numerous bear hunting trips to Canada and fishing trips to both Minnesota and South Dakota. He also loved to spend time with his grandkids. He was known for pestering them at any chance he could get. He loved to attend his children’s and grandchildren’s activities. The restoring of his Cuda gave him great pride. This summer, his 1971 Cuda received first place honors at Schaller Popcorn Days.  He was a blood donor and always encouraged others to do the same.

Randy will be loving remembered by his wife of 45 years, Cindy Jacobson of Lakeside; children: Mindy (Jason) Stoltzfus of Muscatine; Brandon (Rachel) Jacobson of Schleswig; grandchildren: Xander, Zach, Zara, Zoe and Zina Stoltzfus; Ty and Ava Jacobson; sister in-law: Cathy (Jim) McDonough; brothers-in-law: Carey (Rhonda) Schmidt; Casey Schmidt; stepfather, Glenn Mesenbrink; and one brother, all from Schaller; many nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Lois Jacobson; parents-in-law, Alfred “Bud” Schmidt and Vernette Schmidt Mesenbrink.

In Randy’s memory, please donate blood.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
