Lovenetta Hansen

Lovenetta Hansen, 93, of Alta, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017 in Cedar Rapids.



Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 6, at Alta Church of Christ. Burial followed in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta was in charge of the arrangements. 

Lovenetta Rose Benson was born Dec. 12, 1923 in Alta, the daughter of John and Johanna (Hermanson) Benson.

She attended school in Alta where she graduated in 1941.

Following high school graduation, she went to Chicago in pursuit of fame and fortune. While in Chicago, she worked for Northwest Bank.

Upon returning home, Love met the love of her life Melvin Hansen and on Dec. 21, 1944, they were united in marriage in Alta. They were blessed with five children: Larry, Debra, Anne, Jonathan and Michael. Love enjoyed staying home where she raised most of her family. After Michael was born, she started working again. She worked for Alta Foodland for 13 years and then Breakpoint in Alta and Ken-A-Bob in Storm Lake.

Love was baptized on June 6, 1960 at Elk Baptist Church. While being a member at Elk Baptist Church she taught Sunday School and served as a secretary for Ladies Aid. On Sept. 16, 1990, Love joined Immanuel Lutheran Church.

In her spare time, she enjoyed camping and cooking. The last seven years she lived with her daughter, Anne, in Cedar Rapids where Anne cared for her. She was known as “Grandma Love” to many children and even adults. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Larry (Lynda) Hansen of Grand Rapids, Minn.; Debra Bell of Boca Raton, Fla.; Anne (David) Rhodes of Cedar Rapids; Jon (Melanie) Hansen of Pleasant Hill; Mike (Annvetta) Hansen of Fairview Heights, Ill.; grandchildren: Kristie (Greg) Parks; Jody (Brad) Simpson; Katie (Justin) Kruger; Ryan (Jill) Ross; Aimee (Lucas Peters) Ross; Christopher (Ashley) Bell; Courtney (Robbie) Rollins; Jeremy Frye; Benjamin (Tamara) Hansen; Alison Hansen; Noah (Nalopa) Hansen; Elijah (Dawn) Hansen; Halle Hansen; Christian Hansen; Marcus Hansen; 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Wanda Chase of Alta; extended family and many friends.

Love was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin in 1984; grandchildren, Paula; great-grandson, Cash; brother, Woodrow “Woody” Benson; sisters: Marian, Beulah and Ann; and special friend, Arlo Nelson.
