Henry Schnetter

Henry James Schnetter, 58, of Sioux City, and formerly of Alta, died Aug. 26, 2017 at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 1, at 11 a.m. at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta.

Henry James Schnetter was born July 18, 1959 in Storm Lake the son of Robert and Malvena (Sievert) Schnetter. As an infant, he was baptized in Pocahontas.

He attended school in Pocahontas until third grade where he transferred to Alta. He graduated from Alta High School in 1978. While attending high school, Henry worked at Melander’s in Alta part-time and ran a milk route for Johnny Adams.

On Oct. 2, 1982, Henry was united in marriage to Sonja Stange. Together, they were blessed with two children, Berry and Robert.

On April 1, 2011, Henry was united in marriage to Mitzi Banes. Together, they were blessed with a daughter, Nancy, who passed away as an infant.

Henry worked on Bauman Shows from 1971-1980. Following Bauman Shows, Henry was a co-owner and operator of Schnetter Amusements from 1981-1994.

He was a truck driver for many years where he worked for Frank Welde in Anthon and Oto; Tabkey in Moville; and Flatbed Services in Sioux City. Henry was also employed at Friesen’s in Storm Lake and worked for the City of Denton, Texas.

In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and camping. Henry loved wood working and scrapping metal. Family was important to Henry and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Mitzi Banes of Sioux City; children, Berry Schnetter of Ames; Robert (special friend, Michelle Bade) of Westminster, Colo.; mother, Malvena Schnetter of Alta; brothers: John Smith (friend, Lola Wilkening) of Olathe, Kan.; Robert (Marcia) Smith of Alta; Don (Twyla) Smith of Laurens; Fred Schnetter of Alta; sister, Sue (Dennis) Warner of Alta; friend, Dean McDermott of Anthon; nieces; nephews; extended family and many friends.

Henry was preceded in death by his father, Robert Schnetter; infant daughter, Nancy Schnetter; uncles: Dennis Schnetter; Al, Charles, Wilbert, Richard and Lawrence Sievert; Gus and Ruby Strandberg.
