Jean Pickhinke

Jean Pickhinke, 75, of Storm Lake, formerly of Early, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2017 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Aug. 12, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will take place Friday, Aug. 11, from 4-8 p.m. with a rosary prayed at 4 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

Jean Marie Tentinger was born Feb. 5, 1942, in Remsen, the daughter of Erwin and Marie (Gengler) Tentinger.

As an infant, she was baptized at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen where she was later confirmed in 1950.

Jean attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Remsen and graduated high school in 1960. She continued her education at Mercy School of Nursing to become a Licensed Practical Nurse.

On Sept. 1, 1962, Jean was united in marriage to David Joseph Pickhinke in Remsen. Together, they were blessed with four children: Gwen, Steve, Russell and Ellen.

Jean was a member of Sacred Heart Guild in Early and also Cook Township Merry Gardeners Club. She currently was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake.

She enjoyed traveling, dancing, going to casinos, playing cards and was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan. Jean enjoyed baking cookies for grandchildren and playing cards with them. Jean will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to many. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, David Pickhinke of Storm Lake; children: Gwen (Steve) Peters of Marcus; Steve (Tracy) Pickhinke of Early; Russell (Lisa) Pickhinke of Sac City; Ellen (Travis) Bolton of Olathe, Kan.; grandchildren: John (Kelly) Peters of Cleghorn; Emily Peters of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Lisa Peters of Cherokee; David Peters of Cleghorn; Tyler, Alex, Connor and Logan Pickhinke of Early; Ashley, Brad and Megan Pickhinke of Sac City; Valerie, Hope and Luke Bolton of Olathe, Kan.; great-grandchild, Heidi Peters; siblings: Janice Coon of Carroll; Marilyn (Paul) Sohm of Rochester, Minn.; Mike (Ann) Tentinger of Remsen; Pat (Fran) Tentinger of Des Moines; Jerry (Pat) Tentinger of Remsen; Tom (Deb) Tentinger of McKinney, Texas; Chuck (Jo) Tentinger of Remsen; Mary (Roger) Welsh of Norwalk, Ohio; many nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents.
